American Conservation Film Festival
The American Conservation Film Festival was created by a group of volunteers who shared both a devotion to film arts and a commitment to conservation. They also shared the belief that attitudes about the environment are shaped by our experiences in it and that people and their cultures are an essential part of Earth’s biosphere.
The American Conservation Film Festival is an annual event held in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, a vibrant arts community 70 miles west of the nation’s capital. The ACFF features films from a diverse group of conservation filmmakers around the world.
As part of our mission, the ACFF:
-Curates and presents contemporary films on conservation issues.
-Supports emerging filmmakers and new film projects.
-Provides educational, interactive opportunities for filmmakers, audience members, and youth.
-Partners with organizations, businesses, and individuals to share information and strengthen resources.
The mission of American Conservation Film Festival: ACFF presents conservation-focused films and programs that engage, inform, and inspire.

Free Film Access in 2021
The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted ACFF by changing the festival from an in-person experience to a virtual one. While not ideal, this does give them the opportunity to expand their reach beyond Shepherdstown. Therefore, to allow for as many people to see the films, they are offering free film access to everyone during their online festival. This is a great opportunity to broaden their reach and educate more people on the importance of conservation.
American Conservation Film Festival allows for passionate film makers to have the opportunity to show their skills to people who are just as passionate about film and the environment. It is a creative way to educate and entertain people in the local area and now, throughout the country in a virtual setting. This year, “Voices for a New World” share stories of human resilience, the magical wonder of our natural world, and how change is often started by just one person whose passion moved them to take action. ACFF believes that spreading educational opportunities is so important and their impact helps so many within conservation and the film industry.
