T.R.E.E. Teaching Responsible Earth Education has the goal of educating, inspiring, and motivating all through Earth Education experienced in nature. Since 1995, T.R.E.E.’s mission has been to educate children and adults about the life science processes that govern our planet, to inspire them to appreciate the natural world, and to motivate them to protect it.

T.R.E.E. conducts five different educational programs and experiences published by the Institute for Earth Education: Earthkeepers, Sunship Earth, Sunship III, Lost Treasures, and Earthwalks. These opportunities gently immerse participants in hands-on science learning encountered in the wetland ecosystems of Southeast Louisiana. T.R.E.E. serves an average of 1,000 students per year with each group undergoing 15 to 50 instructional hours of life, environmental, and earth sciences, as well as linkages to language arts, visual and theater arts, and social studies. T.R.E.E.'s teaching approach focuses on the child, each of whom has special gifts to share, and are capable of doing so.

T.R.E.E.’s Work

The following are a couple highlights of the impactful work of Teaching Responsible Earth Education.

An Earth Educator's Values

Earth Educator's Values

Earthkeepers

Earthkeepers is a curriculum-based environmental science program in which students learn four scientific concepts: energy flow, cycles, interrelationships and change. Students also explore the natural world with the goal of using their knowledge and awareness to make personal commitments for environmental change. Here are some interesting facts about Earthkeepers.

Sunship Earth

Sunship Earth is a curriculum-based environmental science program that teaches major environmental concepts (for example, cycles, succession, niches, food chains) while giving students an appreciation of the Earth’s wonders, and motivating them to protect the precious life systems on our planet.

Sunship III

Sunship III is a curriculum-based environmental program in which students learn basic scientific concepts like energy flow, cycles, interrelationships and change. Students also explore the natural world with the goal of using their knowledge and awareness to make personal commitments for environmental change.

Earthwalks

An Earthwalk is a fun, interactive experience in nature for all ages. Get away from it all for about an hour and get to know familiar and unfamiliar things in a new way.

Lost Treasures

This program engages 3rd grade students to role play in a collaborative-like model, in order to find the lost treasures of the Animal, Mineral and Plant Kingdoms. They expand and share with others their understandings of the interrelationships of these kingdoms with Earth’s systems. Working mostly on their school campus, this program is experienced by children as a journey - entering their own medieval-sounding story, receiving proclamations to challenge themselves and to work together, and discovering and taking on tasks found in a life-sized treasure chest. Students play the characters in the story through 50 different prompts and activities that typically last one-hour each and are designed to mimic the movements and outcomes of this story.
