The Appalachian Trail Conservancy

For this month's nonprofit partner, Wild Boyz Photography has chosen to support the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. This organization has provided support to the Appalachian Trail since the Conservancy's inception in 1925. The Appalachian Trail spans 14 states and is nearly 2,190 miles long. Throughout the year more than 3 million hikers journey along some portion of the trail, which is said to be the longest hiking-only trail in the world!

The Appalachian Trail was completed in 1937 through a massive undertaking and coordination that was managed by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Today nearly 240,000 hours of volunteer time go into maintaining the trail. The trail was originally designed as a place that man would be able to go to in order to connect with nature and to get away from the trials of modern life. Still to this day people go to the Appalachian Trail to reconnect with the wild.

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s mission is to preserve and manage the Appalachian Trail

The ATC is focused on six key pillars (listed below) to help maintain the trail system. The ATC seeks to bring about protection of the land as well as its use in order for people of this generation to enjoy the trails beauty as well as generations to come.

The Protection and Stewardship pillars are two that resonate with Wild Boyz Photography. Not only do we want you to see the beauty that nature has to offer us, but we want to make sure that it is available for future generations. By adopting best practices in hiking and adventuring, we can help to ensure the future of our wild world. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy provides a number of different policies to help guide hiking, camping, and general use best practices to maintain proper stewardship of the land.
