Center for Wildlife

Center for Wildlife is this month's featured nonprofit. Located in Cape Neddick, Maine, the nonprofit organization was founded in1986 by a veterinarian. In that first year about 100 wildlife patients were admitted in their facility which was then operated out of a trailer in York, Maine. Today the site treats more than 2,000 patients each year including: native wildlife injured because of vehicle collisions, domestic pets, pollution, fishing lines, oil spills, and other human-related causes.

Center for Wildlife operates throughout the New England region. Their patients include more than 190 species of birds, reptiles, and mammals. There is an outdoor campus with 45 enclosures that is typically full from April to October. The goal of the wildlife clinic is to medically treat and provide rehabilitation to injured wild animals so that they can be released back to the wild where they belong.
