Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy

This month's featured nonprofit hails from Georgia, the Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy. CNPC is the official friends group for the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA), a series of fifteen park units along 48 miles of the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta, Georgia. The CNPC was founded in 2012 as the official friends group for the CRNRA. Their vision is for the CRNRA to become an iconic national park: a recognized natural and cultural asset within the Atlanta region and beyond that is enjoyed and supported by a partner organization focused on its prosperity and building a community dedicated to its preservation and enhancement.

In 2019 the Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy accomplished a lot! They hosted their 3rd Annual River Park Symposium that brought in 70 business, government, and nonprofit leaders. 1,416 underserved children were able to participate in nature and skill-building activities. They hosted six outing in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area including their first Paddle-Camp weekend!

CNPC

The Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy's mission "is to build a community of support for the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) and to promote stewardship of its natural and cultural resources."

Throughout the year, The Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy hosts events and volunteer opportunities to support the CRNRA and its guests. They operate on a membership model to support their activities. A member receives updates on activities and an invitation to the annual member celebration. You can also specify to have your donation go to a particular program like trail restorations or youth events.

Strategic Goals

Inspiring the Next Generation
Inspiring the Next Generation

The Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy looks to foster outdoor time for children to help them grow strong, enhance their imagination, decrease aggression, and boost classroom performance. Your donation of $100 will support five scholarships for children to take part in the Sibley Pond Experience. A gift of $500 can support an entire class!

Creating a Legacy
Creating a Legacy

The goal of creating a legacy seeks to support legacy projects throughout the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. These projects include a campaign to restore and connect trails, adding camping and launch sites to the National Water Trail, and developing an administrative park history video.

Growing Our Organization
Growing Our Organization

Since 2016, the Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy has tripled their membership. They did this through the leadership of their board and a refreshed mission focused on branding and expanding their presence within the community. They look to continue this growth into the future.

Building a Caring Community

Every Kid Outdoors
Every Kid Outdoors

Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy helps the National Park Service bring thousands of young people to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area every year by providing transportation, educational supplies, teacher fellowships, internships and volunteers. Their focus is on underserved schools and students who have rarely, if ever, had a chance to visit a park, get in a raft or observe wildlife.

Walk and Talk Series
Walk and Talk Series

The Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy offers a series of expert led educational walks within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. CNPC members are able to learn about the history of the recreation area, geological wonders of the deep Palisades gorge, tree identification without the aid of leaves, and wildlife found within the parks.

Visitor Facilities
Visitor Facilities

With a deferred maintenance backlog of more than $14 million, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area needs all the help it can get to upgrade and replace visitor facilities. Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy funded the replacement of the decades-old Kids Fishing Pier at the pond in the Island Ford Unit, much-loved by young anglers but increasingly unsafe.
