The Nature Conservancy
This month we're partnering with The Nature Conservancy. We're happy to pair up with this large nonprofit that has been doing work here in the United States and abroad since 1951. Their passion for protecting nature throughout the world inspires us to appreciate the resources that we have. Join us in celebrating their work!
The Nature Conservancy started as an organization known as the Ecological Society of America in 1915. The group was originally developed for promoting nature research, but its members slowly adopted the idea of conservation. Through the years the divide between research and conservation caused for the creation of the separate group that would become The Nature Conservancy.
The Nature Conservancy's mission is "to conserve the land and waters on which all life depends". Their vision is "a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives".
Through their work, The Nature Conservancy impacts conservation in 72 countries. Their "Plant a Billion Trees" campaign is one that likely has an impact around the globe. This reforestation project is being pursued to save the Earth from deforestation and to help the world with the effects of global warming. Trees are being planted by The Nature Conservancy across Latin America, North America, and Asia.
Land acquisition for conservation has long been one of the core pillars of The Nature Conservancy. To date over 119 million acres of land haven been protected. Not only does The Nature Conservancy protect land, but they also protect the ocean. They have put in place more than 100 marine conservation projects. One example of this is the 160,000 square miles of ocean that they helped to protect off of Seychelles.
