Rocky Mountain Raptor Program
The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program (RMRP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based out of Fort Collins, Colorado servicing hurt animals since 1979! The nonprofit started as a small local effort and has grown into one of the most respected raptor rehabilitation operations in the country; rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons back into the wild. More than 7,000 raptors have come through their doors and the RMRP ability to help only increases each day.
RMRP admits around 300 sick, injured, or orphaned raptors annually, and releases 75% of treatable patients back to the wild. Giving them a second chance in the wild. These injuries are no joke. Whether it's an eagle tangled in fishing line, a hawk poisoned, or an owl orphaned by wildfire, the RMRP's team of rehabilitation experts, Colorado State University veterinarians and trained volunteers are ready to help. Each bird receives care and nutrition tailored specifically to the individual, along with medical treatment and fun livening up activities both indoors and outdoors.
Not every raptor that arrives at RMRP is able to return to the wild. Birds that are permanently disabled are able to find a new purpose as Educational Ambassadors. Raptors serve as teaching assistants during presentations and outreach events across the region. RMRP provides over 200 days of environmental education to the community annually, bringing these incredible animals face-to-face with students of any form. RMRP has developed a national reputation for the treatment of raptor illness and injuries, volunteer management, community involvement and youth education.
Up to 90% of RMRP's funding comes directly from donations, which means the community plays an enormous role in keeping this operation going. Looking ahead, RMRP is planning an exciting new wildlife center featuring a state-of-the-art raptor hospital, visitor center, classrooms, interpretive displays, and landscaped outdoor exhibits that highlight Colorado's diverse ecosystems and will serve as a permanent home for their non-releasable Education Ambassador birds. The work RMRP does serves as a reminder that every single raptor matters, and that the people willing to show up for them make all the difference.
The Rocky Mountain Raptor Program inspires the protection and conservation of raptors and the environment through excellence in rehabilitation, education, and research.

300+ raptors are admitted every single year, with a 75% release rate for treatable cases: injured eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons get a second chance at life in the wild
200+ days of environmental education annually, bringing live raptors face-to-face with tens of thousands of students and adults eager to learn more about these incredible animals

AND A BRAND-NEW new state-of-the-art wildlife center is currently in the works
It all started in 1979 when an injured hawk was brought to the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. A group of students banded together and created a small club focused on rehabilitating a few injured raptors each year. From that first hawk, nearly 7,000 raptors have followed. RMRP became a grassroots community organization in 1987, and in 2007, left CSU entirely to establish itself as a free-standing operation. It grew from a youthful student club into one of the most respected Raptor programs in the country. Today, RMRP is moving forward with plans to build a Wildlife Nature Park, designed to be a travel destination for families from across Colorado and around the world. A place where visitors can celebrate raptors, wildlife, and all living things.
