Save the Manatee Club
This month Wild Boyz Photography is partnering with the Save the Manatee Club. Save the Manatee was founded in 1981 through the collaboration of former U.S. Senator, Bob Graham, and singer, Jimmy Buffett. Since its inception, Save the Manatee has been dedicated to protecting manatees and their habitat.
Their work includes increasing public awareness and education; sponsoring research, rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts; advocating for strong protection measures; taking legal action when appropriate; and supporting rescue, rehabilitation, research, and education efforts in the Wider Caribbean, South America, and West Africa. Save the Manatee Club's efforts are needed now more than ever. Since 1974, human related activity was the cause of 41% of manatee deaths.
Save the Manatee Club's mission is to "protect manatees and their aquatic habitat for future generations"
The goals of the Save the Manatee Club reside around protecting the manatee species and their aquatic habitat. Their goals include: protecting ample healthy habitat to support a stable or growing manatee population; reducing manatee harassment, injuries, and deaths from human activity; and ensuring that sufficient regulations have been adopted to accomplish these goals
Here at Wild Boyz Photography, we are focused on nature education and awareness. This falls in line with the work of the Save the Manatee Club in that they seek to educate people so that there are fewer manatee injuries and deaths related to human-activity.
The Adopt-a-Manatee program allows individuals to adopt a real, living manatee with known histories. When you join the program, you select a manatee that you would like to sponsor, and you get to read the brief history of that manatee. After joining the program, you'll receive a bio on that manatee in the mail as well as an adoption certificate!
