Tarpon can survive in waters with low dissolved oxygen
Tarpon are an unmistakable fish. They can grow to eight feet in length and weigh almost 300 pounds. These guys are tough. Tarpon can survive in waters with low dissolved oxygen and varying PH levels. They can also hangout in freshwater rivers or open ocean.
This photo was taken at The Elbow, a reef off of Key Largo, Florida. In the summer, it is not unusual to see tarpon leave the shallow Florida Bay waters for the open ocean. During this time, I also keep my eyes out for Hammerhead sharks, since hammerheads love to eat Tarpon.
