Lower Antelope Canyon was formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone
This is actually the second time that I have had a photo from Lower Antelope Canyon this year. As I mentioned in my first post, Lower Antelope Canyon is a photographer's dream. If you're looking to visit the canyon, be sure to book a tour! In the first post I highlighted the texture of the walls of this famous slot canyon. In today's post, I want you to focus on the pattern of the rock. I feel that it looks like a mountain range, even though it's only a few inches long.
Lower Antelope Canyon was formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone. The erosion that creates this slot canyon comes from the flash floods that penetrates into the rock. These flash floods are something that every visitor to a slot canyon must be cautious of. Even water from storms that are miles away can cause a flash flood.
A fun fact about Lower Antelope Canyon is that it is called Tsé bighánílíní in Navajo, which means "the place where water runs through rocks".
