This photo is from Hampton Beach State Park
I travel for work, and often leave early in the morning. Thus, I am fortunate to see many beautiful sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean. This photo was taken at Hampton Beach State Park in New Hampshire. I’m a big fan of sunrise photos, they always feel more special than sunset photos. This is likely because I see far less sunrises than sunsets. In fact, most photographers likely have 10 times the number of sunset photos as they do sunrise photos.
During the CV19 months the state park had been closed. Fortunately, it has recently reopened. One of the things visitors were greeted with was a rope fence around certain areas of the beach. This roped off area was not for enforcing social distancing, this roped off area was to warn beach goers of the nesting piping plovers. What is a “piping plover”? It is a small sparrow sized shorebird, that is sandy in color. They nest on the beach in the spring months. For a time, they were thought to be absent from New Hampshire, but now the latest data is encouraging. In 2019 there were 11 nesting pairs, and 33 chicks hatched, within Hampton Beach State Park.
