This intertidal salt marsh is called Hampton Salt Marsh Conservation Area
This sunset photo was taken where I live, in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. This intertidal salt marsh is called Hampton Salt Marsh Conservation Area. This costal estuary is an important habitat for birds, fish, crustaceans, and seals. When viewed from above, you can appreciate the network of water channels that snake through this area.
This is a hard sunset to beat, especially because it is only a five-minute walk from where I live. Although it is hard to tell in this photo, where the grass ends, there is a four-foot drop to the water level. However, this changes all the time due to the tides. The tide can swing 10 feet at a time in this area. So, there are many times when I could not even be standing where I am for this photo, because it would be underwater.
That is what I like most about this spot. Each sunset here is truly unique. The water is always changing, and the clouds are always changing. If you put in the time, the combination of good lighting, clouds, and water will come together for an amazing sunset.
Did you know? The salt marshes of New Hampshire are home to saltmarsh sparrows.
Did you know? Saltmarsh sparrows only live in salt marshes on the East coast of the United States.
Each sunset here is truly unique
