"Glissading"
All fun and games until you hit a rock or ice chunk
Ben and I recently explored Mt. Liberty to celebrate Wild Boyz Photography becoming "Incorporated". Mt. Liberty is located in the Franconia Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. If you are lucky enough to get a clear summit day, you overlook Franconia Notch (a major pass through the White Mountains). Mt. Liberty is ~4,400’. This day we were lucky enough to have clear skies. Ben and I shot photos on the summit until our fingers were too cold to continue, then we made our way down the mountain. This involved hiking with micro-spikes, snow-shoeing, and glissading.
Glissading is more or less descending steep snowy areas with a controlled butt-slide. Glissading is only possible under certain conditions, but when you get the opportunity to sit down and slide, it sure is a great way to cover distance quickly. There are correct ways and incorrect ways to glissade--like many, I've experienced both. Sometimes when you are sliding on your butt, you can hit a hard patch of ice or rock. At this point you begin to question why you attempted to glissade in the first place. But the ease of covering ground quickly and effortlessly doesn't deter you from trying again. At least it hasn't stopped me yet!
