Ormond Beach has a special place in my heart
I have been going to Ormond Beach my entire life. My family started going there before I can remember, and it has always held a special place in my heart. I love going and spending all my time on the beach. The waves there are excellent. I can spend all day riding the waves on a kayak, boogie board, or body surfing.
I took this photo one morning in 2019 after having setup our beach chairs for the day. I spent every single day that week out on the beach at sunrise. After I watched the sun come up, I would go for a run on the beach. I like running to the north from Ormond Beach because it is nice and quiet. For three miles, there are few condos/hotels, and almost no one on the beach with you.
Although there really aren't that many people on the beach at this hour, the birds are typically out already. As you can see in this photo, I had a guest with me for the sunrise. This is a snowy egret. They grow to be up to two feet tall, and spend their lives wading in the shallow water waiting for fish and snatching up crabs.
There are many other species of birds that like to hang out around Ormond Beach. I'll see plenty of yellow-crowned night herons. Sandpipers, plovers, and gulls are very common. Brown pelicans also spend much of their time fishing from above, waiting to make a splash into the ocean when they see their prey. You can find out more about birds of Florida at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

[…] Ormond Beach, Florida has been the home to countless vacations for me and my family. Matt has even joined for some vacations there. It's a great place nestled just north of Daytona Beach that has an expansive beach and small crowds. Whenever I'm there I like to go for morning runs on the beach. As the sun comes up, I can soak in the early morning rays and see the unique wildlife that is out at that time–whether that be crabs, turtles, or birds (like the heron seen here). […]
