It was the people that enticed me to the organization. Some of my girlfriends and I went to the cleanup and enjoyed it. We met some cool river people, and they convinced me to partake in more cleanups. It was then that I got to know more of the people involved. It’s a community of river rats. The community refers to themselves as river billies. It’s a fun group of people that are drawn to the river.
The people are the best part. I love getting out in nature and being on the river.
Scenic river photos that are focused on nature.
A lot of people are attracted to the cleanups. For the Washington event, the cleanups are already full! Space is limited because we take people out on boats. In between we do smaller cleanups. We work with a volunteer crew that travels with us and helps us to put on events. They also help with education programs and work those events. Without our volunteers we can’t put on these events, because we only have 7 staff. I encourage people to sign up for our monthly newsletter too.
The local spay & neuter clinic, and the local cat & dog rescue. I've done some work with a center for urban agriculture as well. The number one for me is a homeless organization that does a mobile soup kitchen. They go out to where people are camping or hanging out for the day. They feed people on the streets and provide warm coats and blankets. They are filling a gap that the city isn’t currently keeping up with. In the winter they help more to ensure that people are being taken care of.
The Ozarks. The clear, spring fed rivers that you can float on. I got married on the Jack’s Fork River. The wedding was on the river. We took some friends with us and didn’t tell them what was happening. We got married in front of a cave called the Jam Up Cave. When I have the opportunity for a free weekend, I go on down to the Ozarks for camping and floating.
Right now my title is office manager. I do everything from office management, HR, marketing, graphic design, driving a boat, hosting events, answering the phone, emails, and communications. I run our social media and send out all our emails. I recently sent out the annual report to 600 people. I am occasionally the face of the organization along with some others within the group. The team is very collaborative, works together, and pitches in.
